Click Start, click Run or hit the Windows Key and the R Key at the same time.
For Windows XP
Copy and paste the .dll's below or type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command. Then click ok.
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
Or you can open notepad, copy and paste the text in between the lines. Save as, Update.cmd
Then double click on it. Answer all seven boxes.

Open notepad. Copy the information between the lines, then paste them to notepad

Save as Update.cmd
Right click on Update.cmd, left click run as administrator. Answer yes to the 4 questions.
Restart the computer and see if Windows Updates works.
